LAHORE: Nasir Mahmood Khosa has withdrawn from assuming charge as caretaker CM Punjab after PTI withdrew support for his candidacy.
Ex-bureaucrat Nasir Mahmood Khosa was announced as caretaker CM of Punjab on Monday. This was decided after a meeting between CM Punjab Shehbaz Sharif and Mehmoodur Rasheed.
Mehmoodur Rasheed, affiliated to PTI and opposition leader in Punjab Assembly, withdrew support for Nasir Khosa candidacy. Mehmoodur Rasheed had said that after listening to the party workers he had found out Nasir Khosa has PML-N affiliations.
However; Nasir Mahmood Khosa himself withdrew from assuming charge as caretaker PM. He said that he is pulling back from being candidate as caretaker CM in light of controversy around him.
Nasir Mahmood Khosa said that his name was made controversial in the media for his nomination for Punjab CM. Given the circumstances I will not assume charge of the caretaker chief minister, he added.
Khosa called the ongoing controversy against him as “baseless”. He also regretted that he was not even consulted with before putting his name forth as caretaker CM of Punjab. He also said that its no use for him to take charge as CM if all the parties do not support his appointment.
Spokesperson PTI Fawad Chaudhry said that the party withdrew their support for Nasir Khosa’s name because public opinion was not in his favor.
PPP and PML-N had bashed PTI after it rescinded its support for Nasir Khosa’s candidature. PML-N’s Maryum Aurangzeb called this yet another U-turn by PTI body.
