Nationwide Ban on Beard Styling Resurfaces Online; No New Resolution Submitted, Confirms MPA

In 2025, the resolution that was already filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Rukhsana Kausar seeking that the country should permanently ban beard shaping and styling, resurfaced. The fact that this resolution at first proposed five years ago, but the rumors state that it has been published on the 18th of July 2025 once again.

The resolution had urged the federal government to create a law prohibiting individuals and barbers from shaping, designing, or modifying beards. It stated that such practices go against Islamic teachings, labelling them a “great sin.” The beard was described in the resolution as a respected Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and altering its natural form for fashion was deemed un-Islamic.

Clearification has been given by MPA Rukhsana Kausar, The old resolution was returned by the Punjab assembly Secretariat and was later withdrawn. She has stated that although she hopes to table the resolution again in the future, recently it has not been tabled.

The confusion arose due to the circulation of the original resolution text, creating the false impression of a new legislative move. As of now, no such resolution has officially been submitted in the Punjab Assembly for the current session.
