The Navy Day in Pakistan is being celebrated today throughout the nation in honour of the naval heroes of the war of 1965, who maintained the maritime frontiers of the country with courage and sacrifice.
It commemorates Operation Somnath, during which the warships of the Pakistani Navy struck Indian shore facilities successfully and created massive damage. The submarine PNS Ghazi was one of the key deterrents during the same war, demonstrating the operational power of the Pakistan Navy.
President Zardari’s Message on Navy Day in Pakistan
President Asif Ali Zardari said the Pakistan Navy continues to guard the country’s maritime borders and contribute to regional security. He expressed gratitude to the officers, soldiers, and personnel of the Navy for serving as the first line of defence at sea.
“This day is an opportunity to recall the feats of our naval warriors and to recognize the Navy’s vital role in safeguarding Pakistan’s maritime frontiers,” the President Secretariat quoted him as saying.
He paid homage to the martyrs and ghazis of the 1965 war, stating their sacrifices remain a source of national pride. He also said that Operation Somnath was a beacon of bravery, and expertise, which motivated the generations of the following sailors.
Prime Minister’s Tribute on Navy Day in Pakistan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the soldiers, officers, and personnel of Pakistan Navy for their determination and professional service in defending the country’s maritime borders.
The Pakistan Navy has developed into a multi-dimensional force, since the 1965 war. The officials have said that the Navy is dedicated to providing maritime security as well as safeguarding national interests.
