Maryam Nawaz Arrested, Shifted to Adiala Jail on Friday Night


Maryam Nawaz  Arrested on Friday night upon their arrival at Lahore airport.

Both were sentenced to prison and fined in Avenfield Properties case a week ago.

Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz arrived at Lahore airport from Abu Dhabi at 8:50PM, after their flight was delayed for over two hours.

Maryam Nawaz arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team as soon as they landed from the aircraft. The officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) confiscated their passports.

Both were boarded on a special plane for Islamabad. Their flight landed at the new Islamabad airport around 10:35 PM after which both were transported to Adiala jail in separate bullet proof personnel carriers under the security of police conveys.

Islamabad administration issued a notification declaring the rest house at the Sihala Police Training College as the sub jail to keep both Sharifs, with immediate effect until further instructions.

Authorities had decided to keep the two at Adiala Jail for now.

Ministry of Law and Justice also issued a notification that the accountability court would conduct a trial of references against Nawaz and others accused at the Adiala Jail.

Last Friday, accountability court judge Justice Muhammad Bashir signed the arrest warrants for Both Sharif.

Accountability court in Islamabad sentenced Nawaz Sharif to a total of 11 years in prison and slapped Rs 1.3-billion fine for “owning assets disproportionate to known sources of income”.

Maryam Nawaz, on the other hand, was sentenced to eight years with Rs335-million, while her husband, Captain (Retd) Safdar, was handed a one-year prison sentence.

Nawaz Sharif’s sons, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, have been declared ‘proclaimed offenders’ in the case.
