Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz, were released from Adiala Jail on parole hours to attend Begum Kulsoom’s funeral.
Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and his son-in-law Captain (Retd.) Mohammad Safdar have been released on 12-hour parole to attend Begum Kulsoom’s funeral.
The three were escorted by police from Adiala Jail to the Nur Khan Airbase from where they were brought to Lahore.
Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Capt Safdar are currently at their Jati Umra residence.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had earlier informed, “We have just received a request from the family, and Insha Allah (God be willing) we will be granting parole.”
He also informed that Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam would be freed for 12 hours on the day of Begum Kulsoom’s funeral and burial, which is likely to take place in three to four days after the body is flown back home from London.
Begum Kulsoom Nawaz died in a coma yesterday. She was suffering with lymphoma since last year, hardly a month after Nawaz Sharif was removed from office by the Supreme Court. The apex court ordered a trial against the Sharifs in an anti-corruption court.
Nawaz Sharif was in London with his cancer-stricken wife Begum Kulsoom earlier this year when the accountability court had handed him a 10-year jail term and sentenced his presumed political heir, Maryam Nawaz, to seven years in prison over the purchase of luxury flats in London in the 1990s.
