ISLAMABAD: Nawaz Sharif has been given time till June 19 to hire a lawyer by the Accountability Court.
Nawaz Sharif appeared before the Accountability Court today for the hearing in Avenfield Reference without a lawyer. Earlier on Khawaja Haris had requested withdrawal from representing Nawaz Sharif in corruption cases.
Khawaja Haris has been representing Nawaz Sharif since 9 months now in the NAB references.
Accountability Court Judge inquired Nawaz Sharif if he wants a new lawyer in the case as he appeared today in court.
He informed Nawaz Sharif that the withdrawal of his consel Khawaja Haris has not yet been accepted.
Nawaz replied that his counsel has been defending him in these cases for 9 months. He said that this is not an easy decision to make for him so he needs more time to consult.
He told the court that Khawaja Haris had particularly said he would not work Saturdays and Sundays. Nawaz also said that the hearings are being summoned 7 days a week in court, and he has had more than 100 appearances already.
He questioned the Accountability Court Judge is there any other example like this anywhere?
Earlier, Supreme Court had instructed Accountability Court to wrap up the cases and give verdict on them within a month. CJP Saqib Nisar had rejected Khawaja Haris’ appeal for completing cases in six weeks.
Khawaja Haris had then submit his withdrawal in the cases owing to the dictation of Supreme Court. He said that he cannot work on Saturday and Sundays beyond court hours as dictated by the Supreme Court.
