In a recent announcement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has revealed that his elder brother, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, is set to return to Pakistan next month. Nawaz Sharif, the Quaid of Pakistan Muslim League(N), is expected to face his ongoing legal cases upon his arrival. This news has generated significant interest, as Nawaz Sharif is also rumored to lead his party’s election campaign and potentially become the Prime Minister for the fourth time if Pakistan Muslim League(N) secures victory in the upcoming elections.
In an exclusive interview with a private television channel, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif outlined his plans for Nawaz Sharif’s return and his involvement in the election campaign. He further disclosed that after the establishment of a caretaker government, he intends to travel to London to discuss the specifics of Nawaz Sharif’s return. This strategic move is expected to shape the future political landscape in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the recent dissolution of the National Assembly and shared insights into the selection process for a caretaker prime minister. He expressed optimism that a suitable candidate would be finalized soon, with consultations taking place among allied parties and Nawaz Sharif.
Shehbaz Sharif’s tenure as Prime Minister was characterized by its brevity, lasting only 16 months. However, during this period, the coalition government efficiently managed the aftermath of devastating floods, provided timely relief and rehabilitation to affected citizens, and ensured transparent distribution of foreign aid. Notably, the administration successfully averted a potential default situation through rigorous negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
