Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the notification for the new Army Chief of Pakistan to issue at an appropriate time. He rejected speculation and confirmed that work on the matter has already begun.

No legal deadline exists for the Pakistan Army Chief notification. The current Chief of Army Staff retains full command and operational control until the notification issued. He also holds the Field Marshal rank under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, with all privileges and protections.

Jang News reported that the Amendment and Pakistan Army (Amendment) Act 2025 has pointed out clearly that the term of newly appointed Army Chief of Pakistan will take effect on the day of notification. This will guarantee a five-year term on the restructured legal setup. The act also eliminated the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, and established the post of Commander National Strategic Command who would report to the CDF.

The new structure in the defence system heavily relies on the notification of the Pakistan Army Chief. The Prime Minister has the powers to appoint, reassign and extend the tenure of individual commanders and is not subject to judicial oversight.
