Islamabad has taken a big step towards eco-friendly commuting with the launch of electric buses in its public transport system. This initiative aims to reduce pollution and improve connectivity across the city.
New Electric Bus Service In Islamabad
The first batch of 146 electric buses has reached Islamabad, and 14 more are on the way. Once complete, the city will have 160 electric buses ready to serve its residents. These buses are being deployed across 13 new feeder routes to improve intra-city travel.

Currently, the buses are running on two major routes:
- Route 1: NUST to PIMS
- Route 2: PIMS to Bari Imam
More routes are set to launch soon, including:
- Route 3: Sector B-17 to N-5 Metro Station
- Route 4: Taramri to Aabpara
- Route 5: Sectors I-8/I-9 to Faiz Ahmad Faiz Metro Station
- Route 6: Sector D-12 to G-10 Metro Station
These routes will help commuters reach key areas conveniently and sustainably.
Charging facilities are already available at the H-9 Bus Depot and the Convention Centre. Additionally, a permanent charging station with 20 charging points is planned for Zero Point, capable of handling up to 40 buses at a time. To support this service, 216 bus stops and four depots are being developed across the city.
What Is The Timing Of Electric Bus In Islamabad?
The buses operate daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, providing a reliable transport option. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is working to make all public and commercial vehicles electric, aiming for a greener future.
