The Senior Minister of Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon of Sindh, has declared the launch of a new EV bus route in Karachi, which would be operated connecting Gulshan-e-Maymar and Tower. This choice was taken at a transport department meeting, and the goal of the meeting was to increase sustainable mobility opportunities throughout the province.
According to the official statement, fifteen new electric buses will operate on the EV bus new route Karachi, under the People’s Bus Service initiative. In addition, twenty more buses will be introduced in Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Naushahro Feroze districts to improve intercity connectivity.
The meeting also reviewed the completion of the Taj Haider Bridge, a key section of the Yellow Line BRT Karachi, which is expected to open to the public soon.
Sharjeel Memon also announced that the People Bus Service would be extended to three additional districts and women and students will be trained to ride a scooty in Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana. As it is already in operation in Karachi, the programme will seek to offer free driving licences upon completion and hence encourage women to move freely and take up jobs.
Another move towards modern and environmentally friendly transport will come in the form of a new batch of double-decker and EV buses arriving in Karachi soon within the framework of mass transportation in Sindh.
