New Year’s Eve in Karachi: Traffic Police Announce Closures for Sea View and Clifton

As Karachi prepares to welcome 2025, the city’s traffic police have unveiled a comprehensive New Year’s Eve traffic plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement in popular celebration spots such as Clifton, Bagh Ibn Qasim, and Seaview. This initiative aims to manage the anticipated influx of visitors and maintain order during the festivities.

New Year in Karachi: Traffic Diversion and Alternative Routes

To facilitate residents of Defence and other areas, the following traffic arrangements have been made:

  • Defence Residents: Individuals residing in Defence are advised to carry their original identity cards for verification at security checkpoints. This measure will grant them seamless access to their homes. Notably, entry from Korangi to Khayaban-e-Ittehad leading to Seaview will be restricted.
  • Visitors from North Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal: Motorists traveling from these areas towards Defence should utilize the routes passing through Three Talwars and Khayaban-e-Shamsheer to reach Seaview.
  • Travelers from Gadap, Bin Qasim, and Landhi: Those coming from these localities are directed to use Sharah-e-Faisal, proceed to Three Talwars, and then via Khayaban-e-Shamsheer to access Seaview.
  • Returning from Seaview: After celebrations, motorists can opt for routes via Clock Tower, Khayaban-e-Ittehad Road, and Akhtar Colony. Alternatively, the Gulf Club route from Two Darya is available for their return journey.

Restrictions on Heavy Vehicles

To ensure a smoother traffic flow, heavy vehicles are prohibited from entering the city after 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until normal traffic conditions resume. Additionally, heavy traffic will not be permitted on Mairipur Road and Jinnah Bridge leading to Mai Kolachi during this period.

Strict Measures Against Aerial Firing

In a stern warning, AIG Karachi Javed Alam Odho has cautioned against celebratory aerial firing, labeling it a serious offense. Perpetrators will face charges under the attempted murder section. This announcement follows last year’s incidents where 31 individuals sustained injuries due to aerial firing during New Year’s Eve celebrations. Citizens are urged to report any such activities to the police and to celebrate the New Year responsibly and peacefully.

The Karachi traffic police’s proactive measures aim to ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve for all residents and visitors. By adhering to the designated traffic plans and regulations, citizens can contribute to a harmonious start to 2025.
