ISLAMABAD: An oath was taken by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa on Monday, making him acting Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
After incumbent CJP Saqib Nisar has left on a 15-day visit to Russia and China, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa has been appointed the acting CJP. Justice Asif was one of the 5 judges on the 5 member bench that disqualified Nawaz Sharif from his post of Prime Minister.
Nawaz Sharif was disqualified for hiding his foreign employment and the fact that he is receiving money from his son’s company in his nomination papers. According to article 62(1)(f) Nawaz Sharif was termed “Dishonest” and ousted from the seat of PM.
He was also disqualified to contest elections and from the party’s presidency as well. A 5-member bench of Supreme Court had handed down the verdict. The bench was led by CJP Saqib Nisar.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed administered the oath to Justice Khosa at a ceremony held at the Supreme Court. The ceremony was attended by judges and other members of the judiciary.
Justice Asif Saeed Khosa is the most senior judge of the Supreme Court.
