Islamabad – Overseas Pakistanis will be able to cast their votes online for the first time in history. Election Commission of Pakistan has developed an online voting system with the assistance of National Database & Registration Authority.
Chairman NADRA Usman Mobin gave a briefing to three member Supreme Court bench. It was also attended by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza Khan and other Foreign Ministry officials. He explained that this is a digitized voting system.
The Pakistanis living abroad can cast their votes in the home constituency using any internet connected gadget. Laptop, computer, tablet or smart phone can be used for casting online votes. Voters list is also issued by the ECP.
Must Have for Casting Vote
In order to cast online vote, an overseas Pakistani must have:
- A National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistani
- A Machine Readable Passport
- A valid E-mail Address
Mr. Mobin also briefed the audience that overseas voters will have to register at Online Voting System to cast their votes.
The system is available in both English and Urdu languages. It is integrated with NADRA and ECP’s web portal.
