Pakistan Earthquake Today: Magnitude 5.5 Jolts Multiple Cities, No Damage Reported

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), Islamabad, has recorded a magnitude 5.5 of Pakistan today. The earthquake happened at 2:03 a.m. (PKT), on August 2, 2025. Based on the official information, the epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan with a depth of 114 km.

Tremors were felt in northern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat, Abbottabad, Mardan, Charsadda, Haripur, Lahore, Gujranwala, and sections of Azad Kashmir. Pakistan Meteorological Department confirmed the intensity and pointed out that the depth reduced the surface impact.

However, the tremors were felt in a wide area, but there were no structural damage or casualties reported.

Pakistan is located on a major fault line between the Indian and Eurasian plates and which periodically develops earthquakes. The tremors are a part of a cyclical process since many deep-focus earthquakes originated along the Hindu Kush seismic zone, where the energy of the tectonic process was emitted at levels going over 100 km in depth.

Formal estimations by foreign sources initially set the scale at 5.0 to 5.4 only to be later updated by NSMC settling at 5.5 after local study.

The government cautions on being extra vigilant and states that any future news pertaining to earthquake should only be followed based on the official news updates. The NSMC and PDMA are still alerted of a probable aftershock.
