In the final stretch of the 2024 general election campaign, the Election Commission of Pakistan is wrapping up its preparations, marking an end to rallies after 12 pm on Tuesday. With a significant milestone reached, the completion of delivery work involving 26 crore ballot papers and various election materials by District Returning Officers nationwide sets the stage for a pivotal event in the country’s democratic process.
Embracing technological advancements, the Election Commission has established a dedicated control room to monitor the elections. In a first-of-its-kind move, WhatsApp is now an avenue for filing complaints, as revealed by an Election Commission spokesperson. The election management system (EMS), touted as an improvement over the Real-Time System (RTS), promises a seamless blend of offline and online functionalities.
The Election Commission aims to keep the public informed by releasing preliminary results for all 859 constituencies by 2 pm on February 9. A stern caution against misleading propaganda on social media underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring accurate information reaches the public.
Meanwhile, a high-profile delegation led by Dr. Goodluck Abel Jonathan, former president of the Commonwealth Observer Group, engaged in discussions with Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja to assess the election preparations.
Adhering to the election schedule, the mandatory conclusion of the campaign 48 hours before polling signifies a critical transition. Any violations post this period will face legal consequences, according to the Election Commission.
