Pakistan internet services to disrupt today due to a planned submarine cable repair. PTCL claimed that the maintenance of the submarine cable would start at 11:00 AM and may take up to 18 hours, which might impact its users nationwide.
The company affirmed that repairs will be done by an international cable consortium on a repeater installed in the undersea cable system. This maintenance window will allow users to have slow internet speed or partial service interruptions during the day.
A PTCL official said the company is using alternative routes to manage traffic, but service quality may still drop. The internet in Pakistan runs through several submarine cables, and a fault in any one of them can affect connectivity nationwide.
Pakistan internet blockage is likely to have impacts on internet browsing, internet streaming, video conferencing, internet gaming, and remote working. There is also a possibility of slowing down of businesses and learning institutions that require a reliable connection.
The maintenance operation carried out by a global cable consortium that controls Pakistan undersea cable connections. The error detected in a repeater unit that boosts the signals in the submarine cable to sustain data transmission speed and quality.
Reports also indicate that the repair is in a routine maintenance cycle to maintain continuous communication lines to Pakistan internet users. The operation will take about 18 hours and in the process, users should have temporary connectivity problems.
Officials say the Pakistan internet outage may slow browsing in some areas. PTCL and other ISPs are rerouting traffic through alternative submarine cables to reduce the impact.
To meet Pakistan’s growing internet demand, the country uses several international cables, including SEA-ME-WE, AAE-1, and PEACE. Backup connections expected to restore normal internet in Pakistan once the repair is done.
