ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is Celebrating Youm-e-Takbeer, on Monday, with patriotism and zeal.

28th of May, also called Youm-e-Takbeer, is the day when Pakistan first successfully tested its nuclear capabilities in 1998. The tests were in response after India had successfully tested their nuclear bombs and had posed a threat to Pakistan. It was an attempt at self defense from a threat posing India who had just become a nuclear power.

In a release by Foreign Office of Pakistan, it stated that Pakistan was a long pursuer of belief of Nuclear free South Asia. However; after the nuclear tests, that prospect was ended there. But Pakistan is still committed to nuclear non-proliferation and global peace strategy.

The release also stated that Pakistan has shown restraint and responsibility being a nuclear power. Pakistan has sought deterrence stability in South-Asian region from the very beginning. For this Pakistan has offered many Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) since then. One of them being the 2004 Pakistan-India Joint Statement which recognized both countries’ nuclear capabilities. Pakistan is always ready to offer more for avoiding risks of an arms race in the region.

While Pakistan is always moving ahead for maintaining peaceful relations, its also confident in its nuclear capabilities. The statement said that nuclearization of the region should also be of concern to the international community.

Pakistan’s security of its nuclear resources has been internationally recognized. While the country’s nuclear harnessing capabilities are also up-to date. The statement read that Pakistan is one of the biggest victims of climate change. So its planning on using nuclear energy as a clean alternative for fossil fuel to produce 40,000 Megawatts by 2050.
