Pakistan Observes Iqbal Day to Pay Tribute to Poet of the East


Iqbal Day is being observed on November 9 to mark the birth anniversary of ‘Poet of the East’ Allama Iqbal across Pakistan.

Today marks 141st birthday of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

Various events would be held by the government and non-government institutions to celebrate the birth anniversary of Iqbal, who was born on November 9th, 1877 and played a vital role in the Pakistan Movement.

On the eve of Iqbal Day, a change of guards ceremony was held at Allama Iqbal’s Mausoleum in Lahore early morning.

Various literary, educational, political, social and cultural organizations will arrange special programmes across the country on the eve of Iqbal day to pay homage to the national poet and highlight different aspects of his life and teachings.

Special functions will also be held in schools to commemorate the “Poet of the East” on Iqbal Day.

Allama Iqbal is valued and respected for conceiving the idea of Pakistan, and is therefore regarded as one of the founding fathers of the country.

His best literary works include Asrar-e-Khudi, Payam- i-Mashriq, Bang-i-Dara, Bal-i-Jibril, Zarb-i-Kalim and Armughan-e-Hijaz.

He passed away in Lahore on April 21st, 1938.
