Federal Cabinet Greenlights Rs7.49 Billion Ramzan Relief Package for 2024
In a noteworthy move, the federal cabinet, led by caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, has approved a substantial Rs7.49 billion for the upcoming Ramzan Relief Package 2024. This decision, made during a recent cabinet meeting, underscores the government’s commitment to providing financial assistance to citizens during the sacred month of Ramzan.
The allocation, endorsed by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), includes a proposed subsidy of Rs7,492.75 million specifically for the targeted beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), aligning with the fiscal year 2023–24 budget.
In addition to this, the ECC has given the green light to a proposal related to the “Permission to Import Wheat and Export of Wheat Flour under Export Facilitation Scheme 2021,” presented by the Ministry of Commerce. This reflects the government’s proactive measures to ensure wheat supply stability and facilitate wheat flour exports.
Furthermore, the ECC has approved a summary from the Ministry of Commerce (Tariff Policy Wing) addressing “Individual Tariff Rationalisation Proposals from Different Sectors for Review of Custom Duties.” The committee emphasized the need for careful coordination with broader trade policy to ensure a balanced and strategic approach to tariff rationalization.
In a significant development, the ECC has also approved a summary from the Power Division regarding the “Commissioning of 1263 MW CCPP Punjab Thermal Power (Pvt) Limited, Jhang (PPTL).” This decision highlights the government’s dedication to increasing power generation capacity and meeting the energy needs of the country.
These decisions collectively demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing economic challenges, providing relief to vulnerable segments of society, and fostering sustainable development across various sectors. As the holy month of Ramzan approaches, these initiatives aim to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the Pakistani population.
