Pakistani passport ranking has shown improvement in 2025, with the Henley Passport Index placing it at 100th position globally, up from 113th in 2021. This update aligns Pakistan with countries like Somalia and Yemen. Earlier reports in 2025 had placed the Pakistani passport ranking as low as 104th, described as among the weakest passports, but the latest data confirms the rise to 100th place.
Pakistani passport visa-free countries now total 32 destinations, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access. Notable countries include Qatar, Maldives, and Kenya. A bilateral agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also allows holders of Pakistani diplomatic and official passports to travel visa-free to the UAE.
The improvement in the Pakistani passport ranking is attributed to the introduction of e-passports featuring NFC chips that meet ICAO standards, strengthening security and global credibility. Diplomatic efforts and international agreements, including those with the UAE, have contributed to enhanced mobility. The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports reports issuing 13 million passports over two years, with expanded online services for overseas Pakistanis. E-gate services at major airports are also planned to support e-passport holders.
Despite the rise, the Pakistani passport ranking still lags behind regional countries. India ranks 73rd with access to 75 destinations, and Bangladesh stands at 96th. The strongest passports globally in 2025 include Singapore with visa-free access to 193 countries, followed by Japan and South Korea at 190.
