In a major relief for passport seekers across Pakistan, the nationwide issue of passport backlogs has been successfully resolved under the directive of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The Director General (DG) Passport team has cleared the backlog in all major cities, ensuring timely passport issuance for citizens.
Backlog Clearance in Major Cities
The backlog clearance efforts have seen significant progress in major urban centers. In Islamabad alone, 14,673 pending passport cases were resolved, while Karachi reported the issuance of 83,227 passports. In Lahore, the Garden Town office cleared 30,848 cases, followed by Raiwind with 4,872 and Shadman with 11,490. Other key cities such as Quetta, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar also witnessed a substantial number of passport cases cleared, processing 7,252, 18,400, and 23,145 cases respectively.
Timely Passport Issuance Across the Country
The efforts have been successful nationwide, with 5,650 urgent passports delivered and 15,848 passports issued through home delivery services. Embassies processed an additional 17,972 normal and 41,712 urgent passport cases, further accelerating the clearance process.
Commitment to Eradicating Delays
DG Passport Mustafa Jamal Qazi confirmed that the backlog has been “zeroed out in all major cities,” and work is ongoing to completely eliminate any remaining delays across the country. Passport office staff continue to work around the clock to ensure timely passport issuance for citizens.
This development marks a positive step forward in addressing a long-standing issue, offering relief to citizens awaiting their passports.
