The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert across the province, warning of a significant rise in temperatures in the coming days. In response, the School Education Department has directed to suspend all outdoor activities in schools to safeguard students from heat-related health risks.
According to the PDMA Director General, temperatures in Punjab expected to soar by up to 7 degrees Celsius this month. Severe heatwave conditions are likely to affect the plains and southern districts of the province, prompting the government to take urgent precautionary measures.
Punjab Schools Ban Outdoor Activities
To protect children from potential heatstroke and other illnesses, the PDMA has instructed schools to halt all outdoor activities. This includes sports, physical education sessions, and assemblies, especially during peak heat hours.
Citizens Advised to Take Precautions
The public has also strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay in shaded areas, and cover their heads when outdoors. The PDMA has emphasized the importance of staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoiding direct exposure to sunlight.
Medical Preparedness Urged
Authorities have stressed the need for essential medicines to be readily available in hospitals and medical centers. Quick access to treatment for heatstroke and dehydration can save lives during extreme temperature events.
PDMA Monitoring Situation Closely
The PDMA is actively monitoring the situation and will issue timely updates as conditions evolve. Citizens urged to remain vigilant and adhere to the heatwave safety guidelines issued by the government.
