People’s Bus Service: New Fleet of Buses Arrives in Karachi to Enhance Public Transportation

Karachi, the bustling metropolis of Sindh, set to witness a significant transformation in its public transportation system. The Sindh government has unveiled an ambitious plan to infuse a new lease of life into the city’s public transport – the People’s Bus Service initiative. This initiative is a step towards enhancing the city’s public transportation infrastructure, with a focus on efficiency, reliability, and affordability.

A new fleet of buses from China will serve the city’s routes. This will ease the current transport system’s pressure and offer reliable travel options. Government spokesperson, Sharjeel Inam Memon, stated these buses will enhance residents’ travel experience. The Port has received 20 buses, and the Sindh transport department plans to launch new routes under the People’s Bus Service.

In addition to this, Karachi’s Mayor, Murtaza Wahab, has disclosed plans to convert 60 Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) buses to diesel. These buses will operate under a public-private partnership (PPP-mode), catering to the travel needs of the city’s citizens.

On his recent city visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the provincial government’s public transport improvements. He announced the addition of 150 buses to Karachi’s transport network, a significant public transport milestone.

Adding another feather to its cap, Karachi launched the Pink Bus service earlier this month. This service, exclusively for women and girls, began by offering free rides for the first two months. Following this, a nominal fare of Rs50 per passenger will charged. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to ensuring safe and comfortable travel for all its residents.

These developments signal a promising future for Karachi’s public transportation system. With the introduction of new buses and the expansion of routes, including the much-anticipated red bus routes, the city poised to offer a more robust and inclusive public transport network.
