Peshawar BRT Operations – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has allocated a substantial budget of Rs1 billion to ensure the smooth operation of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service from November 2023 to February 2024. This financial support aims to cover ongoing operational costs and clear outstanding payments to BRT service providers, a move recently communicated through an official press release.
In response to recent rumors suggesting potential service closure due to financial difficulties, it has been clarified that these speculations are baseless. TransPeshawar, the organization responsible for managing the BRT system, is fully committed to continuing its crucial role in providing public transportation services to the people of Peshawar.
Zafarullah Khan, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Transport and Housing, stressed the paramount significance of sustaining uninterrupted BRT operations. He pointed out that the Peshawar BRT currently serves an impressive daily ridership of 300,000 passengers. Any interruption or closure of the service, even if temporary, would have a profound impact on the lives of Peshawar’s residents and the city’s socio-economic stability.
