Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has a treat for travelers welcoming the new year! The airline announced a 10% discount on fares for passengers flying from Canada to Pakistan. This limited-time offer allows travelers to book discounted tickets until December 10, with travel dates spanning from January 11 to March 20, 2025.
A PIA spokesperson confirmed the news, saying it’s a move to encourage more bookings amid financial challenges. The airline has been struggling with losses amounting to an enormous Rs 220 billion over the past four and a half years, primarily due to the ban on its flights to European destinations.
The ban, initially imposed by the European Union, came as a massive blow to PIA’s revenue. Coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, which grounded flights globally, the financial strain intensified. Even the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) reported losses of around Rs 250 billion, all linked to these restrictions.
In a hopeful turn, sources in the Privatisation Commission revealed ongoing efforts to restore PIA’s flights to the UK. This development is crucial for the airline’s upcoming privatization process, as regaining access to European skies is expected to boost both credibility and revenue.
For now, the discounted Canada-Pakistan fares are a much-needed boost for PIA, offering travelers a cost-effective option while potentially increasing ticket sales. It’s a small yet significant step toward stabilizing the national carrier in the face of mounting challenges.
