Good news might be on the horizon for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees as a plan to increase their salaries is expected to be presented today. The proposal will be discussed during a meeting of the PIA Board’s HR Committee, aiming to address long-standing employee concerns.
This meeting is crucial since PIA employees haven’t seen a salary raise since 2015. The plan, if approved by the HR Committee, will be forwarded to the Board of Directors for final approval. Employees have been waiting for years, and this could bring some much-needed relief amid rising inflation.
The demand for a raise isn’t new. A few weeks back, Hidayatullah Khan, the President of PIA Employees’ Union (CBA), spoke about the growing financial stress employees are under. He highlighted how the country’s ongoing economic struggles and skyrocketing inflation have left PIA staff dealing with immense mental pressure. He made it clear that after eight years without any salary increments, employees are finding it harder to make ends meet.
This proposed raise could bring a ray of hope for PIA workers who’ve been managing with stagnant wages for almost a decade. While today’s meeting won’t finalize the decision, it’s an important step towards easing the financial burdens of the airline’s hardworking staff.
Let’s see if this plan will finally bring a positive change for the employees who’ve kept the national airline running through thick and thin. For now, all eyes are on the HR Committee’s decision.
