PM Abbasi’s new dilemma: Appointment of the new Director General IB

Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director General Aftab Sultan retired from his post this Monday, leaving the seat of chief of the civilian intelligence agency empty and PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is contemplating over 3 names for the next DG.

The sources inside the PM office said that Prime Minister has currently three people in mind for this important post, Mehr Khaliq Dad Lak, Fawad Asadullah and Dr. Suleman, who are already serving in the IB.


Mehr Khaliq Dad Lak is the commandant of the Intelligence Bureau Academy, while Asadullah and Dr. Suleman are Joint Directors, first one at the IB Headquarters and the latter looking after IB operations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Both Asadullah and Dr. Suleman have had field experience in Counterterrorism operations before while Lak served as the Capital City Police Officer in Lahore prior to his current post.
