The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that monsoon rains will sweep across the country starting today, Friday, August 9, and continuing through Monday, August 12. Karachi, along with other regions, will experience these showers, which will come with occasional breaks.
From August 9 to 11, Sindh will see rain, wind, and thundershowers affecting areas such as Mithi, Sanghar, Mirpur Khas, and Karachi. Strong winds originating from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are expected to enhance these conditions.
In Punjab, including major cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Faisalabad, rain and thundershowers are forecasted from August 9 to 12. Southern Punjab, including Bahawalpur and Multan, will face similar conditions on the evenings of August 10 and 11, with scattered heavy falls.
The PMD’s latest forecast also includes rain, wind, and thundershowers for Sindh’s isolated places such as Hyderabad, Tando Allayar, and Sukkur from August 9 to 11, with occasional gaps in between. Furthermore, heavy showers are predicted for Bahawalpur, Multan, and other areas on the evening of August 10 and night of August 11.
Additional rain and thundershowers are anticipated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. This year’s monsoon season is expected to be wetter than usual, reflecting Pakistan’s vulnerability to extreme weather conditions exacerbated by climate change.
