The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has recently announced a significant change in the practice of aesthetic medicine. The update emphasizes that only practitioners with specific qualifications in aesthetic medicine are permitted to administer such procedures.
Previously, general practitioners, including those with MBBS and BDS degrees, were allowed to practice aesthetic medicine across Pakistan. However, the new directive restricts the attendance of aesthetic medicine courses and workshops to practitioners registered with the PMDC.
Moreover, the PMDC has clarified that only its approved doctors are authorized to perform aesthetic procedures. This move aims to ensure that all aesthetic procedures are carried out by trained and qualified professionals, thereby enhancing patient safety and care quality.
In addition, Health Care Commissioners have been instructed to conduct inspections of medical facilities offering aesthetic medicine and surgery. Strict actions will be enforced against any facilities found to violate these new regulations. This measure further underscores the PMDC’s commitment to upholding the highest standards in the practice of aesthetic medicine in Pakistan.
