ISLAMABAD: PM Khaqan Abbasi is presiding over a parliamentary meeting of PML-N today.
PM Khaqan Abbasi has called the meeting to take into confidence the PML-N lawmakers over Nawaz Sharif’s Mumbai attack statements. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will also issue guidelines for budget session in Assembly.
Nawaz Sharif had issued a statement alleging Pakistan’s involvement in Mumbai attacks of 2008. This was being played on by Indian Media and manipulated.
A National Security Committee meeting was called over the matter which was presided over by PM Khaqan Abbasi. The committee had condemned the statement and denied any involvement in the terror attacks on Mumbai.
PM Khaqan Abbasi later called on Nawaz Sharif for a meeting which was attended by Maryam Nawaz and other leaders of the party. PM Abbasi then gave a media statement that the news was misreported. He revealed Nawaz Sharif’s words had not alleged Pakistan’s involvement. He also stated that the NSC had not condemned Nawaz but the misreported statement instead.
Later Nawaz Sharif also issued a statement that his words in the report to local news outlet were misinterpreted.
This had caused a kind of divide in the party with many PML-N leaders, including President PML-N Shehbaz Sharif saying that Nawaz Sharif’s narrative is not party policy. PM Khaqan Abbasi seems to be trying to mend that divide in this meeting.
Earlier on PM Abbasi had also invited the National Assembly members to a breakfast. PPP and PTI however; had boycotted the breakfast. Awami Muslim League Chairman, Sheikh Rasheed and disgruntled PML-N Leader, Chaudry Nisar, did not show up either.
Members from Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (F) attended the breakfast invite of PM Abbasi.
