Power Restored in Karachi After Major Breakdown: K-Electric

Supply of power restored in Karachi certain areas after a major breakdown Monday morning as a transmission line of the national grid tripped.

K- Electric said, “Partial supply from national grid has resumed and restoration of power supply to affected areas is progressing swiftly. Supply to parts of Korangi, Garden, Jacob Line, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan, Defence, Gizri and Landhi has started.”

“Full restoration is expected to be achieved over the next few hours,” it added.

Large parts of Karachi were rendered without electricity as the “500 kV transmission line connecting KE to the national grid tripped”.

“This has had a rollover effect on Karachi’s electric supply due to which various parts of the city are experiencing an outage,” the power utility said.

Areas affected by the power breakdown include Clifton, Gulistan-e-Johar, North Nazimabad, Jahangir Road, FB Area, Malir, PECHS, Garden, Buffer Zone, Nazimabad and Gulshan-e-Hadeed among others.

Last month, Karachi was hit by five major power breakdowns in the span of 25 days.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had taken notice of the power outages in the metropolis. A press release issued by NEPRA had stated that K-Electric was not investing to improve its transmission and distribution network.
