ISLAMABAD: PPP has announced the names of Zaka Ashraf and Jalil Abbas Jilani as candidates for the post of caretaker PM.
Opposition leader Khursheed Shah has sent the names of both the candidates to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has contacted Ashraf and Jilani on telephone informing them of the decision. Asif Ali Zardari told Ashraf and Jilani on call that they got selected on basis of hard work and honesty.
Zaka Ashraf served as the adviser to chief minister Sindh from 1988-1990. He was the former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board as well.
While Jilani served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States. He has also been Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary in the past.
The final name for the caretaker PM will be decided in a meeting between Opposition leader Khursheed Shah and PM Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday (Tomorrow).
According to constitution a caretaker PM is decided after consensus on a name between opposition leader and incumbent PM.
Caretaker government is charged with conducting fair and clear elections. The caretaker cabinet also runs the affairs of the country in absence of an elected government.
The caretaker government will take over after the current government finishes its tenure on 31st May.
