Murtaza Solangi appointed as the new spokesperson of President Asif Ali Zardari. His appointment was confirmed through an official notification issued by the President’s Secretariat, effective from August 21, 2025.
The senior journalist and former caretaker federal minister for information and broadcasting announced the development on X, stating that he would assume responsibilities as spokesperson of the President of Pakistan from today. The position is honorary and pro bono.
Murtaza Solangi previously served as caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting between August 2023 and March 2024. He also worked as Director General of Radio Pakistan from 2008 to 2013, managing 64 broadcasting units and partnerships with Voice of America, Deutsche Welle and China Radio International. He was the first Pakistani elected as vice president and later acting president of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union. Solangi received the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2011 for his services in media.
His appointment as presidential spokesperson has drawn attention in political and media circles as past differences between Solangi and Asif Ali Zardari were publicly reported. Analysts describe the decision as an indication of improved relations and broader access for journalists at the presidency.
