President Zardari Approves Appointment of Pakistan’s First Defence Forces Chief

President Asif Ali Zardari has sanctioned a summary of the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as the first-ever Chief of Defence Forces in Pakistan in addition to his present position as Chief of Army Staff (COAS). His tenure will be five years under the newly established position making it a historic development in the military command structure of Pakistan.

The president also granted a 2-year extension to the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, whose tenure extension will start on March 19, 2026.

According to a statement made by President Zardari, he expressed his good wishes to the top leadership of the military and he hoped that they would succeed in their duties.

The promotion of Field Marshal Asim Munir to the position of the inaugural Chief of Defence Forces in Pakistan is being seen as a historic move towards enhancing the cohesion of the military leadership and coordination between the armed forces.
