Federal government has decided to launch a probe into all the metro bus projects started under the Pakistan Muslim-League Nawaz regime.
An unbiased audit will be carried out on the initial cost of metro bus projects of Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Multan. Whereas, the detailed reports will also be sought on the companies given contract for the transportation projects.
The newly-elected federal government of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf has decided to also investigate the Green Bus project in Karachi and Lahore metro train.
For starting the investigation, finance ministry is expected to get an approval from the federal cabinet today.
Prior to being sworn in as the country’s new prime minister, PTI Chief Imran Khan has straightforwardly criticised the metro bus projects initiated by the PML-N government.
While addressing a public rally in Bahawalpur in July, Imran Khan had said PKR 60 billion were wasted on underutilized Multan metro bus service. He was of the opinion that Sharif family initiated the projects just to make money out of it.
Prior to that, Imran Khan took to social media, stating that an investigation in the metro bus projects and Orange Line Train Metro Train projects will reveal that earning massive kickbacks was the reason for “building these loss-making mega projects”.
In a message on Twitter, Imran Khan also shared a report of private news channel wherein it was reported that an audit report of the Islamabad-Rawalpindi Metro Bus project revealed a PKR 5 billion loss to the national treasure.
