Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued four primary demands as a condition to conclude its upcoming protest movement, which it aims to start in the last week of November. The protest, led by PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, will call for the “restoration” of democratic governance and judicial independence in Pakistan.
From his incarceration, Imran Khan announced a “final march” to Islamabad scheduled for November 24. PTI revealed a comprehensive protest strategy and establish a negotiation committee to guide talks with the government, potentially ending the demonstrations if its demands met.
PTI’s Four Key Demands
PTI’s core demands include:
- Repeal of the 26th Constitutional Amendment
- Restoration of the Constitution to its original form
- Return of the ‘stolen mandate’
- Release of political prisoners detained without trial
Omar Ayub, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, underscored the party’s commitment to the supremacy of the Constitution and law. He highlighted the importance of releasing all political prisoners, including Imran Khan, whom he says have wrongfully detained on fabricated charges.
“We demand that all political prisoners, including Imran Khan, be released immediately,” Ayub stated, emphasizing the need for fair general elections to restore democratic processes.
PTI’s Strategy and Call for Systemic Reforms
The PTI leadership clarified that the party’s demands aim for systemic reforms, not personal relief. “Relief will come automatically when these conditions met,” Ayub emphasized. The newly formed PTI committee, authorized by Imran Khan, will oversee the protest movement and be responsible for all discussions with government authorities.
As the date for the “final march” nears, PTI’s demands for judicial and democratic restoration reflect its intensified stance on upholding constitutional supremacy in Pakistan.
