The federal government has declared a nationwide public holiday on September 16, 2024, in honor of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This decision was included in the 2024 calendar, marking the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal as a significant day for the nation.
However, the final date will depend on the moon sighting for the Islamic month of Rabi’ al-Awwal. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to convene on Wednesday, September 4, to observe the moon. If the moon is sighted on that day, Rabi’ al-Awwal will begin on September 5, confirming Eid Milad-un-Nabi on September 16.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi is celebrated with great religious fervor across the country, with streets transforming into vibrant scenes of festivity. In major cities, processions are held, where participants wave flags and chant in devotion to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), making the day a significant occasion in the Islamic calendar.
