Punjab launches free public transport for Basant 2026 to ensure public safety. The government will provide 10,000 free rickshaws and shuttle services from February 6 to 8 in Lahore. This initiative aims to reduce motorcycle use and prevent injuries from illegal kite strings during the three-day festival revival.
Lahore prepares for a historic Basant revival this February. After an 18-year ban, the Punjab government finally approved celebrations for the provincial capital. Officials want to make this event safe for everyone. They just announced a massive free transport Punjab plan to protect citizens from kite-string accidents.
The provincial administration finalized the strategy. This pilot project focuses on Lahore to test safety protocols. Ministers emphasized that motorcycles pose the highest risk during the festival. Therefore, the city will offer free public transport to keep bikers off the roads.
Free Transport Punjab: How it Works
The government partnered with ride-hailing apps like Yango and inDrive for this mission. These platforms will deploy 10,000 free rickshaws across Lahore. All city bus routes will also waive fares from February 6 to February 8. Special “Basant Shuttles” will connect the Walled City to Greater Iqbal Park.
Safety Rules for Basant 2026
The Home Department issued strict SOPs for the Basant festival 2026. Only nine-strand cotton thread is legal. Authorities banned metallic wires and chemical-coated strings entirely. Police will monitor rooftops to enforce these rules. If you must ride a bike, you must install a safety wire or rod.
This move aims to revive the local economy and culture. The government expects thousands of tourists to visit Lahore. This three-day event includes food festivals, laser shows, and traditional kite flying.
