The Punjab government set to launch a unique initiative for the holy month of Ramadan. This initiative designed to support those enrolled in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), according to insiders.
The initiative, currently under discussion, will introduce Ramadan Hampers, which will procured from local wholesale markets and filled with essential items.
The program aims to reach an estimated 65,000 to 70,000 families with a distinctive Eid special package. This package, worth Rs 3,630, will distributed to eligible beneficiaries at no cost.
The Eid package will include 10 kg of flour, 2 kg of sugar, and 2 kg of basin, addressing the basic needs of households. Additionally, the package will contain 2 kg of rice and 2 kg of ghee to enhance the recipients’ dietary options.
Efficient delivery logistics have arranged to ensure smooth home delivery of the Eid packages, with a nominal bag cost of Rs. 435.
The initiative also sets fixed prices for individual food items: flour at Rs135, sugar at Rs140, basin at Rs230, ghee at Rs460, rice at Rs280 per kilogram, and plastic bags at Rs60 each.
A preliminary budget of Rs. 9 billion has allocated to ensure the successful distribution of ration packages to deserving individuals as part of this extensive support program.
