In a groundbreaking initiative, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the launch of Pakistan’s first-ever ‘Minority Card.’ This program aims to provide financial assistance to underprivileged members of minority communities, empowering them to achieve economic independence.
The announcement was made during a Christmas ceremony at Lahore’s House of Prayer, the city’s largest church. Addressing the gathering, the chief minister underscored her government’s commitment to fostering equality and inclusion across Punjab.
Financial Aid for Marginalized Communities
The Minority Card will offer financial assistance to economically disadvantaged individuals from minority groups, disbursed every three months. This initiative is expected to alleviate financial burdens and support self-sufficiency among marginalized communities.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized her vision of creating a nurturing state that treats all citizens with fairness and compassion. “A mother does not discriminate among her children. For me, there is no difference based on religion. Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, and people of all faiths are my pride,” she stated.
Increased Budget for Christian Community
In addition to unveiling the Minority Card, the chief minister announced a 200% increase in the development budget for the Christian community. She expressed her willingness to further expand the budget in the future, stating, “This is not charity but their right.”
Maryam Nawaz reiterated her commitment to ensuring that every government project includes the active participation of minorities. She also assured that her office and home remain accessible to all, vowing to protect and support minority groups against any harm.
Promoting Equality and Inclusion
The launch of the Minority Card represents a significant step toward building an equitable and inclusive society. Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s administration continues to champion initiatives that prioritize the welfare and development of Punjab’s residents, regardless of their religious background.
This historic move aligns with the chief minister’s broader vision of a united Punjab, where every citizen is treated with dignity and respect. The initiative is expected to pave the way for greater social harmony and economic stability for minority communities across the province.
