Background and Recent Developments:

The announcement coincides with an intensified crackdown by the traffic police against drivers without valid licenses in Lahore and other cities of Punjab. This operation follows a tragic car accident caused by a teenage driver, resulting in the loss of six lives within the same family.

To address the surge in license applications, the traffic police introduced an online registration service. This initiative aims to simplify and streamline the licensing process, with citizens able to apply through the Punjab Police app or at any of the 737 police stations and Khidmat Marakiz across the province.

Online Registration Process:

To avail of the online service, applicants must follow these steps:

  1. Create an account on the DLIMS licensing website.
  2. Fill out the application form.
  3. Upload required documents, including a photo, scanned copies of the front and back of the original CNIC, and a medical certificate (for applicants above 50 years).
  4. Generate a payment slip ID and complete the payment through ATM, online banking, or mobile banking channels.

This innovative approach has been implemented under the guidance of Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to enhance the efficiency of license processing. Notably, a record-high number of 74,000 learner permits were issued in a single day in Punjab on December 5, reflecting increased adherence to licensing requirements. The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore has played a pivotal role in ensuring the effective implementation of the crackdown through a monitoring center established at the traffic headquarters.
