Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi declared a revision in driving license fees for the province on Tuesday, with the updated rates set to take effect from January 16.
In his announcement, Naqvi underscored the impending increase in driving license fees starting January 16, urging the public to secure their licenses before the deadline to avoid additional costs. He also issued a stern caution against operating motorcycles or vehicles without a valid license.
Originally proposed by the provincial government on December 5, 2023, the plan aimed to raise the driving license fee from Rs 60 to Rs 1,000. However, Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi opted to postpone its implementation until January 15. The approval for this adjustment was granted during the 33rd meeting of the provincial cabinet, chaired by the caretaker Chief Minister.
It’s noteworthy that a significant number of driving licenses, exceeding 10 million, were issued in the previous year.

To facilitate the renewal process, individuals can conveniently renew their licenses through the online system. Candidates have the option to renew licenses for durations of one, three, five, and ten years, with international driving licenses remaining valid for three years.
The announcement further revealed that both local and international e-licenses can be effortlessly downloaded by the masses, eliminating the need for physical driving tests for these candidates. This user-friendly approach aligns with the government’s commitment to streamlining processes and embracing digital solutions for the convenience of the public.
This development not only signifies a shift in the fee structure but also introduces a more accessible and modernized renewal system, aligning with the government’s commitment to embracing technology for the benefit of the citizens. The January 16 deadline serves as a crucial reminder for individuals to take prompt action and ensure compliance with the updated fee structure.
