Punjab Excise Department Offers 20% Reward for Reporting Property Tax Evasion

The Punjab Excise Department has introduced a groundbreaking initiative, “Expose Tax Evasion, Earn Rewards,” aimed at tackling tax evasion in the province. This program, approved by the provincial cabinet, encourages citizens to report tax evasion and earn financial rewards for their efforts.

Under this new whistleblower program, citizens and excise employees alike can contribute to improving tax compliance. Informants will receive 20% of the fines collected from the tax evaders they report. Additionally, offenders will face strict penalties equal to the amount of tax they attempted to avoid.

To ensure safety and encourage participation, the Punjab Excise Department has assured that the identities of informants will remain confidential. This step not only strengthens the government’s tax collection efforts but also boosts public involvement in combating tax fraud.

The necessary amendments to existing regulations are in the final stages of approval. The “Expose Tax Evasion, Earn Rewards” program is expected to be fully implemented by the end of the current fiscal year. The government’s proactive approach underscores its dedication to fostering a culture of tax compliance and fairness for all citizens.

This initiative aligns with broader national efforts led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who recently called for decisive action against tax defaulters. The PM has emphasized the importance of using technological advancements to enhance the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) performance.

The government is also taking steps to improve transparency in customs declarations, a move expected to increase tax compliance and strengthen Pakistan’s economic stability, which currently stands at an estimated $350 billion GDP.
