The Punjab government has announced a major initiative to provide free plots to homeless and deserving families under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar program. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has set an ambitious target of constructing 20,000 houses by February 2025, with an annual goal of building 100,000 houses.
Free Plots Under Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Program
To ensure the smooth execution of the free plots scheme, an 8-member committee has formed to finalize the Terms of Reference (TORs). The initiative aims to benefit low-income families by offering 3 to 5 Marla plots across various districts of Punjab.
During a special meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, it revealed that 35 housing schemes and 2,807 plots have already developed in 22 districts of Punjab. Additionally, the development of nine housing schemes and 1,119 plots in seven districts being accelerated.
Loans Issued for House Construction
The Punjab government has also allocated financial resources to support the construction process. So far, loans worth Rs. 8.20 billion have issued for the construction of 9,015 houses. Additionally, 2,050 individuals have received their second loan installment for house construction. Under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar program, 4,841 houses are currently under construction.
