Basant in Lahore 2026 might finally return with all its colorful glory, as the Punjab government has officially kicked off preparations to celebrate the iconic festival in February 2026—this time under strict safety measures.
Following the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a high-level committee has been formed to plan and execute a safe Basant Festival in Lahore. This committee includes top officials from the Walled City of Lahore Authority, Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), and representatives from multiple government departments, including the Kite Flying Association.
According to sources, the festival will likely be confined to the Walled City of Lahore and celebrated over two specific days. This move is expected to revive traditional Basant festivities in a controlled and historic environment, minimizing potential hazards.
Motorcycle Ban for Basant Celebrations in Lahore
To prevent accidents, the government is reviewing a proposal to temporarily ban motorcycles for two days during the event. This safety protocol aims to reduce the number of Basant-related injuries, especially among youngsters.
Only Registered Kite Vendors and Safe Strings Allowed
Only registered kite vendors approved by the district administration will be allowed to sell and buy kites during Basant 2026 in Lahore. In addition, anyone manufacturing or supplying kite string (dor) must also obtain prior registration.
To ensure public safety, the use of glass-coated or metallic kite strings will be strictly banned. All kite strings will go through an official inspection process to make sure they meet government-set Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The revival of Basant in Lahore reflects the Punjab government’s determination to preserve cultural heritage while ensuring public safety. By combining traditional celebrations with regulated systems, Basant Festival 2026 could mark a new era of joyful yet responsible festivities in the heart of Lahore.
