Punjab Government’s Innovative Move: Students to Receive Electric Bikes in Bid to Reduce Environmental Impact
In a groundbreaking development, the Punjab government is gearing up to launch a pioneering scheme that will see students from universities and colleges receive electric bikes through a lottery system. The initiative, designed to alleviate the environmental impact of traditional commuting, awaits final approval from Punjab’s Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi.
The Provincial Minister for Planning and Development, Bilal Afzal, underscored the scheme’s primary goal of promoting environmentally friendly transportation options. By encouraging students to opt for electric bikes, the government aims to reduce the reliance on conventional modes of transportation.
Crucially, the financial details of the assistance to be provided to students are yet to be finalized. However, Bilal Afzal emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that students are not burdened economically by the initiative.
The scheme, initially focused on universities and colleges, aims to benefit both male and female students equally. To streamline the process, Punjab’s Transport Secretary confirm that preparations, including collaboration with manufacturers and determining bike prices, have completed.
As the scheme rolls out, students will be able to submit their applications online, and a transparent lottery system will be implemente to allocate electric bikes.
