In a bid to offset rising expenditures and fuel rates, commuters traversing Punjab’s Metro Bus and Orange Line Train routes will soon face marginally increased fares, announced by the caretaker government.
The outgoing administration in Punjab has greenlit fare hikes for the Orange Line Train and Multan Metro Bus. Effective immediately, passengers will see a modest increment of five rupees per ticket for the Orange Line Metro Train, alongside a similar adjustment for the Multan metro bus. Additionally, feeder bus fares will witness a Rs 5 hike in response to escalating fuel prices.
This decision comes as no surprise amidst the current economic climate, with the government projecting an additional annual revenue of Rs. 82.85 million from fare increases.
However, commuters utilizing the Lahore and Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus services can breathe a sigh of relief, as fares for these routes will remain unchanged as of February 2024.
It’s worth noting that earlier proposals suggesting a substantial Rs.15 fare hike for Metrobus and Speedobus services were dismissed by the government.
Metro Bus Ticket Price:
Distance Range | Fare |
---|---|
0 to 4 km | Rs. 30 |
5 to 8 km | Rs. 35 |
9 to 12 km | Rs. 40 |
13 to 16 km | Rs. 45 |
16 to 27 km | Rs. 45 |
As commuters brace themselves for these adjustments, it’s evident that the landscape of public transportation costs in Punjab is undergoing subtle but significant changes.
