In a progressive move towards environmentally friendly transportation, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has unveiled the ambitious ‘Green Wheels’ program. This initiative aims to promote eco-friendly commuting by providing 10,000 electric bikes and rickshaws to the public through interest-free installment plans.
Underlining the key features of the program, Naqvi announced the allocation of 2,000 electric three-wheeler bikes with completely interest-free terms for special individuals. An additional 2,000 electric bikes have earmarked for government employees, and another 2,000 will distributed to women in both government and private sectors, all without interest.
A noteworthy aspect of this initiative is the paradigm shift in government procurement policies. Naqvi announced a ban on the acquisition of fuel motorcycles at the government level. Going forward, government departments will exclusively procure electric bikes, aligning with the global trend towards sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
This groundbreaking initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to addressing environmental concerns and promoting sustainable practices. Naqvi urged citizens to seize this opportunity, emphasizing their collective contribution to a greener and cleaner future for Punjab.
The rollout of the electric transportation program scheduled in the coming weeks, marking a significant milestone in Punjab’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. The ‘Green Wheels’ program not only promises to transform commuting habits but also signifies a bold step towards a more sustainable and eco-conscious future in the region.
