Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has declared a smog emergency across Punjab, signaling the seriousness of the environmental situation in the region. During a lengthy meeting at the CM office, the government and environmental specialists discussed various measures to combat smog. It was emphasized that merely granting leave in schools and shutting down transportation would not be enough to address the issue.
In response to the smog crisis, the CM has mandated the use of masks for both male and female students in all government and private schools for a duration of one month. This decision was made with the health and safety of students in mind. The general public has also been encouraged to wear masks when venturing outside, further promoting the importance of this preventive measure.
To tackle the root causes of smog, Chief Minister Naqvi has instructed stern actions against those failing to control dust, sand, and debris during house construction. The Commissioner of Lahore division, the Local Government department, and the Lahore Waste Management Company have been directed to take action in this regard.
Additionally, the CM has ordered the withdrawal of challans against farmers who contribute to smog by burning crop stubbles. Instead, farmers are urged to dispose of these materials in an environmentally responsible manner.
These measures reflect the government’s commitment to addressing the smog crisis and its impact on public health and the environment in Punjab.
