Sindh’s Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah, has declared a rain emergency across the province. All local government bodies, administrative units, and hospitals have been placed on high alert. In light of the impending weather conditions, a half-day schedule has been announced for public and private institutions in Karachi.
Citizens have been urged to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, as rainfall is expected to commence in Karachi from 2 pm tomorrow. The city is likely to experience 3 to 4 spells of rain at different intervals post 2 pm.
The Chief Minister was briefed by the Director-General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (DGPDMA), Salman Shah. The briefing highlighted the likelihood of rainfall in the northern regions of Sindh from tonight till March 2, and in the central areas on March 1.
Salman Shah informed that the entire province of Sindh is expected to receive rainfall starting today, with Karachi likely to experience it post tomorrow afternoon. The city is predicted to receive 13 to 16 mm of rain within a span of 12 hours.
Murad Ali Shah emphasized the need for preparedness, stating that rainwater from the Jhal Magsi and Khuzdar mountain ranges will flow into Sindh.
The Provincial Secretary of Irrigation reported the construction of three dams in Karachi. Mayor Murtaza Wahab assured that efforts are underway to resolve drainage issues in the city, with the Karachi Water Board Corporation deploying 53 vehicles equipped with suction machines.
The Chief Minister also instructed the DIG Traffic to enhance traffic management measures.
In light of the commencement of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s Urs, and the influx of pilgrims, the Chief Minister stressed the need for adequate facilities in Sehwan.
